Directly from Schlosshof, where numerous old farm animal breeds can be admired, come the four Zackel sheep, which have now recently found their new home at St. Martins thermal baths & Lodge. The Hungarian Zackel Sheep is a traditional domestic animal breed and was chosen as the farm animal of the year 2020 - the St. Martins thermal baths & Lodge, a resort of the VAMED Vitality World, was already home to seven of the now rare animals, with the addition the herd has now grown to eleven Zackel Sheep. These are the last surviving breed of sheep with helically twisted, or corkscrew, horns. "These animals are part of the cultural history of the region and are used in St. Martins to graze large and species-rich pastures," explains biologist and head of the Nature Experience & Animal Assisted Intervention Department Elke Schmelzer, St. Martins thermal baths & Lodge. "In addition to the history of these animals, biology, behavior, agricultural use and their importance as landscape stewards are incorporated into the nature experience and visitor programs at St. Martins thermal baths & Lodge."
